Why Death Watch?

Choice of our Thriller Title - Death Watch

"Death Watch" is the title of my group's thriller film. My group and I believe that "Death Watch" is a suitable choice of our film as it is also the name of a woodboring beetle (Xestobium rufovillosum).

The beetle creates a tapping or ticking sound which is used to attract mates. This sound can be heard in the rafters of old buildings on quiet summer nights.

The beetle can then be associated with quiet, sleepless nights and are named for the vigil (watch) (from the Latin vigilia, meaning wakefulness) kept beside the dying or dead.

The 'death watch' beetle is also mentioned in the film "Practical Magic" (1998) and its characteristic ticking sound serves as the harbinger of death.

The choice of the title name for our thriller could possibly touch the fear within the audience as they might understand the meaning behind the name of our thriller title.
